Vu Lan @ Hoa Nghiem Temple

During the celebration week of Vu Lan, V3 had the opportunity to volunteer with our mothers at Hoa Nghiem Temple held on Sunday August 28th. We had a few of our core members namely Gigi, David, Phong, and Tuyen representing our group to attend. We worked with our mothers to sell “Chuoi Chien” (Deep Fried Bananas) and “Nuoc Sam” (Vietnamese Herbal Drink).  All profits was fully donated to the temple. In returns, we had an awesome time working with our mothers in the warm sunny weather!

V3 Promotes Vietnamese Culture at the 2011 Surrey Fusion Festival

During the weekend of July 16 and 17 of 2011, the city of Surrey hosted it’s largest multi-cultural event known as the Surrey Fusion Festival.  V3 with the support of Vietnamese Friendship Society took the opportunity to host the Vietnam Pavilion for the first time.  The Surrey Fusion Festival consists of live performances on and off stage, cultural pavilions and activities for children.

Over the course of the festival, we had cultural tours of the Vietnam pavilion to guests, provided entertainment in the form of traditional dances and Vietnamese word games, catered to children with a crafts table, professional photographed guests dressed in our traditional clothing, and sold Vietnamese food in the next tent.

The Surrey Fusion Festival was conducting surveys throughout the weekend to judge which country had the best pavilion (they measure items such as food, organization, commitment, interaction with the community).  We did our best regardless of the weather and came in 3rd place out of 36 countries.

We thank all of our volunteers and drop-in support in creating an environment where people can learn more about our culture, tradition and to help bring exposure to the public about the Vietnamese community.
